Do you frequently have low moods, feelings of helplessness and a lack of energy? If so, you may have depression, and these feelings may be exacerbated if you have financial problems, health issues or the lack of a support network. Psychotherapy can help you to identify the cause of your depression and just as importantly, help you to manage the condition and stop it from overtaking your life. I’ll also be able to help you look at the behaviours that contribute to your depression and look at ways to avoid the patterns that are linked to your mental difficulties. Anxiety is the body’s way of coping with potentially worrying situations, however in some cases this response can overcompensate. Persistent anxious feelings can take over your body and make you sweat, tremble and have panic attacks. Research suggests that anxiety is driven by an underlying cause and psychotherapy will help you to uncover this and manage it in a productive way. You will learn what contributes to your anxiety and look at ways to reduce and control your anxiety so that it does not overwhelm you. You’ll be pleased to know that anxiety is very treatable and you will notice improvements after just a handful of sessions. It is not uncommon for patients to eliminate the symptoms of their anxiety after just a few months.
If you have suffered a traumatic event, the after effects can actually alter your brain and your regular thought process. You may feel constantly on edge, and this is down to your brain, which has become hyper-vigilant as a result of the event. Psychotherapy will explore your feelings, your symptoms as well as the traumatic event. You will gain an insight into how you behave, and you will develop new methods of thinking that will help you to address the traumatic event directly, thereby removing the defense mechanisms your body puts up. For further details as to how I can assist with your trauma, please contact me.
It is perfectly normal for couples to have disagreements, but it is how you react to these that is important. If you find yourself constantly battling your partner, it is inevitable that this will cause serious harm to your relationship. Therapy can help you with new ways of thinking and reacting so that you are more prepared to deal with issues whether they are to do with intimacy, money or communication.
